The Agriculture Wing of the Embassy was established in 1958 for representing India at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Later on with the establishment in Rome of the headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) all work pertaining to the three Rome-based UN Agencies is dealt within the Agriculture Wing.

- The Ambassador is the Permanent Representative and Minister (Agriculture) is the Alternate Permanent Representative to the three UN Agencies.

- India is an elected member of the following Governing Bodies at the three agencies

- FAO Council, Finance Committee & Chairman for the Committee on Agriculture at FAO

- WFP Executive Board & President of the Executive Board of WFP for the year 2012

- IFAD Executive Board & Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of IFAD
