Celebration of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

 

The Embassy of India, Rome celebrated the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Embassy premises on November 11th, 2019 with the participation of Embassy staff, Indian community and local citizens.

The Mission invited Prof. Fabio Scialpi, former Professor of Indology at La Sapienza University in Rome, to give a short lecture on Guru Nanak Devi Ji and Sikhism. Prof. Scialpi remembered and stressed the importance of Guru Nanak’s teachings in today’s world, as well as his message of dedication and hard work, tolerance, mutual respect, simplicity and equality.

Later Sikh preacher Mr. Manpreet Singh, from local Gurudwara, also shared his thoughts on the life and teachings of Guru Nanakdevji. His speech was followed by the screening of a Documentary Film on the Harmandir Sahib of Amritsar, ‘The Golden Temple’, shared by XPD Division.

Earlier, First Secretary (PIC), Ms. Suruchi Sharma, delivered her opening remarks welcoming the invited guests and Booklets on Guru Nanak Devji and Sikhism were distributed to the guests.

The function was attended with great enthusiasm by about 100 people from the Indian community and local friends of India in a common spirit of peace and joy to celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of the great Guru.
